Who said Facebook is a waste of time? If you enjoy being on Facebook, why don’t you make the most of it and learn some Spanish on the way? After all, Facebook is a means of communication, and what a better way of improving your Spanish than“being with the locals”.
# 1 Change language
Check on your Facebook friends’ list and see if there are any Spanish speakers. If there are, but you haven’t used Spanish yet when talking to them, let them know that you would like to start doing so. Perhaps at the beginning they forget to address to you in Spanish, because they are not use to. Still, you can write your comments all the time en español until they get use to it.
# 2 Make new friends
To add new Spanish friends on Facebook, make an anouncement on your wall explaining
everybody that you would like to meet Spanish speakers on the net, and that you would appreciate being introduced to their Spanish Facebook friends.
Once your first friendship request is accepted, you will be able to start communicating in Spanish and so you will have the chance to improve the language. Warning: with virtual “friends” do not
give out any personal information that you wouldn’t give to a stranger in the street.
# 3 Post Spanish stuff
Get used to – if you are not already doing so -surf on the Spanish world wide web. Thus, you will not only improve your Spanish by reading on topics of your interest, see Subscribe to a Spanish website but you will also have Spanish stuff to share with your new Spanish community. What to post? There is no right or wrong on Facebook. Just be yourself, your Spanish self. : )
# 4 Join a Spanish Facebook group
Do a search on Spanish Facebook groups and I’m sure you’ll find at least one of your interest. Some groups are pretty active, and so it’s now the time to engage yourself in the conversation. Do not worry if you make mistakes, nobody is there to judge your Spanish. As a matter of fact, you will be more than welcome to participate in the discussions, since a group is nothing without
people taking part.
# 5 Like a Spanish page
Do a search or ask your friends to advise you on any interesting Spanish Facebook
pages. Select a few of your interests, like them and wait. In less than a minute, you will be nicely bombarded with stuff about them. The good thing about internet is that one page leads you to another and then another …
Being on Facebook, you’ll be reading lots, and your Spanish reading skills will benefit
substantially. Imagine, so much knowledge, and it’s all just a click away.
And now it’s your time:
Do you use Spanish on Facebook? Share your experience. Please leave a comment below. Hasta pronto : )
